Aim and Scope. The Journal of Water Security (JWS) has been established as an Open Access journal to be the international forum for exchange of scientific knowledge between academia, industry and policy-makers in order to increase security of society and environment in respect to handling of water resources.

JWS publishes papers on water science, technology, management and innovation with emphasis on water quantity and quality, advanced (methods in) water engineering, water policy and economics. Both engineering, technological, behaviour, organisational aspects these bring about new generalisable knowledge are accepted.

Topics: Water physics and chemistry; Water cycle and climate change; Water demand and consumption; Applied surface and groundwater hydrology; Modelling of water resource systems; Irrigation and drainage; Droughts and flood control; Hydrodynamics and sedimentation; Hydroinformatics; Aquatic environment; Water monitoring; Water quality and its management; Environmental restoration; Water supply and purification; Water sanitation; Water legislation and cost savings; Water safety planning; Social aspects of water use.

Types of papers: We accept full-research papers of a theoretical, computational and experimental nature as well as critical review and case studies. We also encourage the submission of other types of papers which would benefit the community: concept or design studies, negative results, instrumentation, or site data reports, for example.

Periodicity. The papers published within 2 weeks after their acceptance after peer-review. Articles are published in English.

Publication fee. Publishing in JWS is free of charge for authors.

All content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles in this journal without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access.

Peer review. All manuscripts submitted to JWS are examined by the editors and are sent to reviewers. Submitted articles are reviewed by applying the double-blind method (the identities of the author(s) and reviewers are kept unknown). Each article is appointed at least two referees (scientists with a degree in the relevant field). Authors can expect a fast review of their submission because decisions are usually communicated within 3 weeks after the manuscript is submitted. Acceptance is based on originality, scientific excellence, and topical balance of the journal. Once the editors have accepted the manuscript, the author can expect it to be published online (officially published) within the next three weeks.
